Evening with the Artists – Waterfront Mural Sneak Peek
Artists Anita Corby and Katherine Caughey will provide a sneak preview of their waterfront mural project. The mural, titled “Spirit of Des Moines,” was painstakingly crafted over the summer and fall months as the artists donated endless hours to complete the piece. It benefits the overall aesthetic of the Des Moines Waterfront as it graces South Marina Park starting in June, 2008. The April 11th reception is free to the public from 7-9pm at the Des Moines Activity Center (2045 S. 216th St.) Light appetizers and refreshments will be available. 206-870-6527

Earth Day Clean Up – Des Moines
The entire community is welcomed and encouraged to help volunteer with 2008 Earth Day Clean up activities. Clean up will take place from 9am-12noon on Saturday, April 19tht between 216th and 227th Streets (north to South) and between Marine View Drive and Dock Street (Marina). Join the Des Moines Arts Commission at the opening of the Farmers Market to dedicate the waterfront mural, “Spirit of Des Moines.” The gorgeous depiction of Des Moines landmarks past and present was created though the in-kind services of Anita Corby and Katherine Caughey. The piece will be formally unveiled at 12:00pm on Saturday, June 7th, at South Marina Park (NE Corner of Dock Ave & 227th St.) in conjunction with the Waterfront Farmers Market and the Waterland Children’s Arts Festival.
